OPLS SERVICES
OPLS aims to provide holistic legal assistance services to support and empower the Kiribati people. Currently OPLS offers a range of services including:
- Legal advice and representation services for eligible clients in the Magistrates Court, High Court and Court of Appeal.
- Community Engagement.
- Community Outreach to Outer Islands.
- Drafting of Statutory Declarations.
LEGAL SERVICES
We have dedicated lawyers and paralegals who can provide legal advice and represent people in the Magistrates Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. OPLS can help in a range of different legal matters including:
- Criminal Law
We can help any I-Kiribati person who has been charged with a criminal offence. If you are charged with a criminal offence, please make an appointment with our office as soon as possible. We can also advise on criminal appeals.
- Family Law
We can assist in family law disputes including divorce, maintenance and custody matters and domestic and family violence matters.
- Land Law
We can assist eligible clients in a variety of land related matters including, boundary determinations, land registration disputes, will and adoption matters, and land leases.
- Civil Law
We can assist in a wide range of civil law matters. The types of civil law cases we regularly help in include personal injury matters, workmans compensation, consumer protection, and contract disputes.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Through community engagement, we aim to raise awareness and educate the public about their legal rights and responsibilities, and how to seek assistance when they experience legal problems. Our Community Engagement Division regularly conduct awareness programs and community legal education on South Tarawa and Outer Islands focusing on legal issues that are relevant to the community.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
OPLS provides free legal services throughout Kiribati including supporting people who live on Outer Islands.
If you live on an outer island, we can offer appointment via telephone or video conferencing. We also regularly attend outer islands conducting awareness program and attending High Court Tours and Magistrates Court matters.
We also offer home visits to clients who live on South Tarawa but cannot access the office due to disability, age or health concerns.
STATUTORY DECLARATIONS
A statutory declaration is a written statement signed in front of an authorised person and declared to be true.
OPLS can assist in drafting and witnessing statutory declarations for a small fee. Our statutory declaration service is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We charge $10 to witness a statutory declaration.
